Bell Materials

  • Gold Brass: Warm and mellow sound, increased projection and responsiveness, less corrosion-resistant than sterling silver but more than yellow brass.
  • Yellow Brass: Most commonly used, versatile sound from bright and brassy to warm and mellow, relatively lightweight.
  • Red Brass: Softer than other brass, warm and rich tone, less projection than yellow brass, very responsive material.
  • Phosphor Bronze: Similar to red brass, high degree of resonance, denser than red brass for better projection and brightness of tone.

Bell Size

  • Large bell (L) in the model name: Fuller and more resonant sound, wider range of dynamics and increased resistance, may be slightly more difficult to play in fast passages but offers versatility and nuance.
  • Standard bell (S) in the model name: Similar to a Bach #37 bell size, standard taper and diameter bell.

Bell Wall Thickness

Bell Thickness: Thinner bells produce a brighter, more focused sound, thicker bells have a darker and more rich sound, increase volume and projection, but decrease responsiveness.

  • T: Thin (0.4mm)
  • M: Middle (0.5mm)
  • S: Standard (0.6mm)
  • H: Thick (0.7mm)
